Church History

Rev. Howard E. Anderson, Sr. organized The “Exciting” Singing Hills Baptist Church on January 26, 1984 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, 2303 S. Tyler St., Pastored by Rev. Coy R. Brown who acted as Moderator for this organizational service.  He was assisted by Rev. B. W. McCoy, Pastor and Rev. Bernard Gilliam, Associate Minister of Greater South Central Baptist Church, 3002 Denley Drive ; Rev. B. L. Sims, Pastor of Grace of God Missionary Baptist Church, 3815 Hancock St., all of Dallas, Texas.

In this organizational service, twenty-four members were chartered:  Rev. Howard E. Anderson, Sr., Sis. Shirley Von Anderson, Howard Anderson, Jr., Jo Betty Anderson, Bobbie Bates, Angela Bates, Stephanie Bates, Serena Bates, Kevin Bates, Shirley Benson, Joyce Davis, Kennecia Davis, Fredrick Davis, Ela Davis, Lee Dixon, Azzie Fleets, Schnikwa Hicks, James Lee, Dorothy Lee,  Mae O. Link, Tony Link, Bobby Polk, Betty Polk and Cassandra Williams.

Founding and Establishment

·         January 26, 1984 – Rev. Howard E. Anderson, Sr., founded and organized The “Exciting” Singing Hills Baptist Church.

·         February 5, 1984 - The first worship service was held at the Moorland Branch YMCA on Ledbetter Dr.  Pastor Anderson delivered the sermon entitled “Making Giant Steps for God” (1 Samuel 17: 1-10).  Ten new members were added to the fellowship.  

·         July 22, 1984 - The Constitution and By-Laws were adopted by the church. 

·         August 17, 1984 - The church was incorporated by the State of Texas.

·         January 25, 1985 - 1.9 acres of land was purchased at 6550 Houston School Road for the future site of the church. 

·         September, 1986 - Entrance and dedication services for the first church building were held.  

·         October, 1987 – An additional 2.4 acres of land was purchased

·         March, 1988 – First “Commitment to Build” program

·         September, 1989 - The present sanctuary was completed. 

·         March, 1992 – Second “Commitment to Build” program

·         August, 1993 - The H. E. Anderson, Sr., Education building was completed.

·         October 25, 1995 – Learning Center was licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services – Child Care Licensing Division

·         March, 1996 – 4 acres were purchased to further meet the needs of our church and community

·         April, 1996 – Third “Commitment to Build” program

·         August, 2000 – Fourth “Commitment to Build” program

·         November, 2000 – Completion of Balcony

·         December, 2004 – Family Life Center completed.

·         March, 2005 – Fifth “Commitment to Build” program (Jubilee: Vision for Our Future)

 Our membership is now in excess of 2700.
